Casa Nufro

The house is located in “Arbol Gordo”, Seville, in an old neighborhood outside the medieval city wall. Although the neighborhood is completely integrated into the urban network, it still maintains the original rural scale of other Andalusian towns. This area is currently undergoing a renovation process, changing old, self-built houses for new buildings, while at the same time maintaining the aforementioned rural urban network.

The general plan of the house is organized around a central courtyard, between dividing walls, and includes a backyard. This covered, central, double height space organizes, ventilates and illuminates the whole house from the core to the rest of the household. The staircase leading up to the first floor, where the bedrooms are located, is also included in the central area. This upward spiral creates continuity with a discreet, service stairway which communicates with the penthouse. This last floor is designed for guests, leisure and domestic services.

We have paid special attention to the storage spaces in the house which are distributed all throughout the home. In the hall, there is a closet that continues throughout the corridor to the patio, and each bedroom has a walk-in closet. We designed a library which serves as a background to the stairs and spans across the total width of the house.

Our design process followed some bio-climatic strategies, such as cross-ventilation, light colors on the upper floors, sun-shading structures, as well as horizontal windows and awnings to reduce the heat of the sun in summer.
