Studio 804 is a 9-month program that puts 28 graduate minds together to form an inventive, sustainable, and possible building solution. In this time period, a design is created with a thoughtful and productive plan with all systems, estimates, zoning, concrete, framing, insulation, interior design, roofing, and more considered thoroughly. Once things are approved, action happens on-site with all things done by us students.
436 Indiana Street is located in Lawrence's Pinckney neighborhood on a previously overgrown lot near a stormwater swale. With a luscious tree forest to our South and the previous year's project to our North, an immersive opportunity was available on this site. Formating views to the South and creating areas that culture a natural habitation were strong design topics for this project.
On the ground level, one enters into the foyer with built-in storage and desk area. This floor contains two bedrooms, a full bathroom, and the mechanical/laundry room. Moving up to the second floor, the plan opens up to the main living space, dining, and kitchen. Placing our living area on that second floor with high ceiling heights allows the visitor to be immersed into the framed view towards the southern tree canopy. On the East side is the primary suite, with an attached bath and walk-in closet.
