Importance of Being Earnest is a play by Oscar Wilde. First performed on 14 February 1895 at St. James's Theatre in London, it is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personae in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. ---source
The play Importance of Being Earnest is set during Victorian Period, taken place both interior in the mansion and outdoor in the garden.
I picked the two color tone, orange old tone to represent the luxurious in wealth or status of the two main characters. The green carpet grand staircase is to create levels for the dramatic effects and to cope with the wealthy Victorian style interior. The green color not only tone down the orange of the entire set, but also serves as a set transition to the garden scene, when the rug and chandeliers are put away and background lighting is dimmed.
