This project began with an analysis of Aldo Van Eyck’s orphanage project in Amsterdam. After producing a series of analytical and abstracted models, Kris translated Van Eyck’s modular system into three dimensions, creating several overlapping modular systems operating at different scales to meet the project’s programmatic requirements. From smallest to largest scale, the enclosure, structure, and program interact and misalign to create a variety of interior conditions, allowing the identically sized classrooms to take on their own characters.
