In the spring of 2018, Qingyun Ma, the Chinese architect and former dean of the USC School of Architecture, hired Kris to join his Los Angeles design office. He contributed to office-wide design competitions but focused most on developing the structural design of guest villas for the architect’s own vineyard outside of Xi’an China. He took on the project and reconfigured its structural system to optimize the visual resolution of the enclosure system while adding to its structural strength. He travelled to China to oversee the building of the first full-size prototype of the enclosure shell based on his designwork.
