KSR Architects’ exciting regeneration project at 101 Camley Street, together with two linked developments, picked up the New London Award for Best Unbuilt Mixed Use Development in early July.

The building forms part of Shaw Corporation’s Camley Street Incubator and Gateway sites, in the rapidly developing King’s Cross area.

The New London Awards recognise the very best in architecture, planning and development in the capital, across all sectors of the built environment. Camley Street was praised by the judges for its “contribution to the public realm, [which] enhanced the canal frontage. It is a truly mixed-use development and the three architects collaborated to come up with a good solution.”

“Delivering significant sustainable economic and community benefits, the project includes: an Enterprise Incubator to create 300+ enterprises a year; a combined total of over 3,800 sq. m. of commercial floor space at 101 and 102 Camley Street for small- and medium-sized enterprises, including affordable ‘move on’ workspace; over 300 new homes, 40 private homes for rent and a large proportion of family homes, including 67 affordable homes on site; new local services for the community; and public realm improvements.”

At the heart of the three interlinked developments will be a vibrant publically accessible amenity space, centred on the canal and providing a bridge connection across the canal, access to the towpath and landscaped relaxation areas.

The site occupies a pivotal location within both the Regent’s Canal and King’s Cross Conservation Areas, and form a gateway to the future Camley Street regeneration area. Due to the significance of the location the project required a very sensitive design response and close collaboration between the three sites.

Our 3D printer proved to be an invaluable tool in the design development process, allowing us to visually model the complexity of the development.
