This is a 200 unit residential tower with a combined program of a public library and retail services. The project is sited on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, NY. The work for this project was a team effort for the systems studio of Taubman College's M.Arch.
The design explores the reduction of individual private space and increase of public spaces for both residents and public within the complex as a benefit of the combined program requirements. The idea was, by reducing the scale of the units themselves and meticulously designing them for living within the confines of a small space, and expanding public spaces into the whole of the complex, occupants would have more space and amenities than if they were dependent on their single enclosed living units.
