The Queens Canopy was a macro scale project for The Aberdeen Advanced Design Studio at The University of South Florida School of Architecture + Community Design. The existing conditions of Queen Street in the city center of Aberdeen, Scotland are unused as a destination and is clearly used as a pedestrian and car through-way.
The main urban and architectural concepts used for our project are a central sheltered gathering space and a major pedestrian route. This area has a high amount of light exposure and the overhead condition allows for easy transition between two major structures: the Concert Hall and Queen’s Market. The wave like motion is influenced by the nearby coastline.
