CO- (Collective Operations) seeks candidates for a full-time Senior Architect position. Our firm practices Architecture, Urban Design, and Real Estate Development, striving to balance design excellence with project feasibility. We are currently working on projects such as new construction multi-family housing and rehabilitation projects in California.

We seek an experienced architect capable of managing and advancing complex design and construction projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to push the boundaries of creativity, manage a team to develop innovative and attractive design options, coordinate documentation, and move projects toward realization. Experience with large-scale housing and public space projects, along with a strong grasp of California building codes and regulations, is highly desired. Given our involvement in both the design and development phases, the candidate should also have a clear understanding of the real estate development process and project financial goals.

Senior Architects at CO- manage a design team and work closely with Directors to advance and deliver projects. Their responsibilities include project management, communication and coordination with clients and consultants, developing design iterations and concepts, conducting site analysis and design research, managing project documentation, and coordinating material options.

Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English, with additional language abilities considered a plus. Authorization to work in the United States is required. This role is based in San Francisco and will initially be in person, with the possibility for increased workplace flexibility as the candidate grows into the role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A professional degree in architecture
  • 6+ years of experience working on design in a professional setting, having seen projects through multiple phases
  • Licensed architect in California
  • Very strong design sensibility
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable
  • The ability to visualize clearly and compellingly in 2D and 3D with Adobe, Rhino, and various rendering engines
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to structure their own work process and work independently while incorporating team feedback
  • Extensive experience in project documentation and Revit
  • Ability to design for multiple scales and timelines
  • Knowledge of real estate finance and development and construction processes
  • A working ability in Microsoft Excel
