About the Role:
As a Project Designer, you will be responsible for creating concepts and developing designs while supporting the project team through successful project completion. You will exhibit self-direction, ingenuity, and leadership in design, collaborating with and under the guidance of the Project Manager and Senior Designer or Design Director to ensure alignment and seamless coordination throughout the project. You will regularly coordinate with Designers and the Project Job Captain as well as interact with clients, consultants, vendors and construction managers to successfully translate project goals into unique and exceptional designs. You will be responsible for the development of the project design at all phases for one or more projects, establishing design direction, preparing quality presentations, and coordinating with agencies affecting design. Your responsibilities include:
Design Leadership:
Develop, lead and present design concepts directly to client stakeholder groups, applying critical thinking to anticipate issues and ensure exceptional design execution.
Support programming, visioning efforts and space planning.
Exhibit knowledge and understanding of sustainability, wellness and equity in executing design solutions.
Communicate with internal teams through all phases of design
Coordinate with vendors, furniture dealers and manufacturers to develop final FF&E selections within project budgets and schedules.
Regularly seek knowledge and mastery of the newest products, design innovations, strategies and relevant technology to apply to projects and share with the project team.
Project Coordination:
Contribute at all design phases, coordinating with designers, consultants, and vendors to deliver solutions for complex interiors and building renovations.
Ensure alignment with project goals as well as the firm’s principles through efficient document production and team reviews.
Establish strategy and workplan for design deliverables prepared by the team, including renderings, finish plans, elevations, and material selections, ensuring code compliance and construction forethought as well as timely adherence with the firm’s Quality Assurance processes for Design, Sustainability and Technical Review.
Collaboration:
Work closely with architects, consultants and the general contractor to integrate all project requirements and best practices.
Successfully connect with clients, listen, and incorporate feedback into the design.
Engage in jobsite meetings, review and process RFIs & submittals during Construction Administration.
Continually mentor design staff and share knowledge across the project team and the firm.
Support teams and projects across Revel’s offices in Los Angeles and Austin.
Technical Expertise:
Utilize REVIT skills and knowledge of construction and detailing to efficiently produce contract documents, ensuring compliance with codes and constructability.
Perform markups and manage drawing sets with precision.
Often assuming and overlapping some responsibilities of the Job Captain.
Problem-Solving:
Tackle design challenges with creativity and positivity, maintaining the firm’s high-quality standards and resolving issues swiftly with the project team and exceeding our client’s expectations.
Coordinate with general contractors (GCs), project managers, and consultants to ensure design solutions meet construction budget and schedule. Develop pricing alternates and value-engineering options with the project team.
Software Skills:
Effectively use Revit, Enscape, and other digital tools & software to communicate concepts to clients, for problem-solving, and to efficiently develop construction documents.
Develop schematic and design development decks with proficiency, using Google Workspace & Adobe Creative Suite to effectively communicate design intent.
Familiarity and understanding of AI tools currently being used in the industry for design and documentation. Proven experience is a plus.
Requirements:
6+ years of experience in workplace interiors
Critical thinker with the uncanny ability to spot problems
Execution of great design – A team player who gets the vision and brings creative ideas
Excels in REVIT for modeling and documentation
Experienced with Enscape to communicate 3D visualization of design
Performs work with accuracy and minimal guidance – because you’ve got this
Takes initiative to complete work while being thorough and detail oriented
Maintains emotional intelligence and a professional sense of humor even under pressure (because who says you can’t laugh while meeting a deadline?)
Prioritizes service and responsiveness, keeping clients happy and projects on track
Knowledge of codes, constructability, budgeting, and drawing set management with an eagle eye for detail
A deep sense of investment in projects and commitment to their teammates (your passion shows)
Certification or licensure is preferred but not required
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Someone who brings positivity, optimism and energy to the team
Accountability for your responsibilities
Distinction between Level I and II is based on experience, ability, and project size/complexity. Level II Designers typically have 8+ years of relevant experience and may serve as the Design Lead for multiple small and medium projects, guiding design phases and leading several design teams.
