Prodject is seeking a freelance design assistant to join our team in New York.

Prodject is a creative agency specializing in brand strategy, design, and execution for events in fashion, music, art, and popular culture. Our design department is involved in all phases of design for projects ranging from runway shows to exhibitions to pop-up shops to gala dinners.

Prodject is looking for a talented and flexible designer to join our team as a design assistant on a short-term contract, likely to lead to long-term.

The design assistant works directly with the design director to design, draw, source materials and select furniture for runway shows, events and installations.  The ideal candidate will have a strong architecture/interior design education and experience in retail, experiential and/or set design. The ideal candidate will display a great attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed, be a team player and take direction easily and confidently. We are looking for a talented, in-touch, imaginative creative collaborator.

Must have excellent computer drafting (2d and 3d) and graphic design skills. Must have great eye and taste level. Must be highly organized and able to work on multiple projects at once and communicate effectively with team members and vendors. The ideal candidate will also be thorough and knowledgeable at sourcing furniture and props and interested in spending time in the office and on-site.

Roles and responsibilities:

• furniture and prop sourcing
• design research and conceptualizing
• CAD and SketchUp drafting, sketching and rendering
• graphic design tasks for printed assets as well as client facing presentations
• on-site installation supervision
• social media management

Qualifications:

• one to three years’ of professional experience in set design, production design, event or interior design
• excellent visual research skills
• strong knowledge of materials/building methods
• fluency in Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• mastery of SketchUp for both drawing and rendering required. Experience in other 3D drawing and rendering tools is a plus
• fluency in AutoCAD
• knowledge of New York furniture stores (vintage, contemporary and prop), flower and garment districts a plus

Must live in New York area and be available immediately.
