Laufs Engineering Design is an exciting, young, growing NYC engineering and design firm specializing in specialty structures, facades, and unusual mid-size projects.  We are seeking an innovative, creative, independent, and, most critically, a technically oriented designer to support our world class high rise building envelope projects.  We are currently supporting clients like SHoP architects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Morris Adjmi, Tadao Ando, Steven Hall, Renzo Piano, and many more.  The ideal candidate loves solving spatial problems, can manage a small team, is resourceful, and has extensive experience in façades and waterproofing, including in-depth knowledge of products, assembly types, and structure. 

Responsibilities will include:

• Interacting with clients during design assist, schematic design, and design development to understand façade needs and assist with design decision-making.
• Managing projects and possibly supervising another person to develop full construction documents and shop drawings in AutoCAD or Revit for a variety of façade project types.
• Reviewing and commenting on façade shop drawings by others.    
• Communicating with clients to establish their needs, and maintaining a dialogue throughout the project. 
• Ensuring production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget. 

Qualifications include:

• Education in architecture, structural engineering, industrial design, or construction
• Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience in facade engineering.
• Extensive experience in façades and waterproofing, including in-depth knowledge of products, assembly types, and structure.
• Proficiency 2D drafting in CAD; 3D computer modeling in Rhino, Grasshopper, Revit, AutoCad.
• Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal).
• Able to understand the balance of priorities on differing projects.    
• Planning and organizational skills. 
• Ability to effectively manage a small team of 1-3 people
• Ability to identify and solve problems using available resources
• Ability to work independently as well as in team
