McBride Architects is seeking to hire a Junior Designer/Architect. This is not an entry-level position. This individual will serve as the vital, primary source of support for Senior Architects on assigned projects. This individual will have many tasks to diversify daily responsibilities. No day will look the same. The right individual will be able to work autonomously but not be afraid to exercise their curiosity to problem-solve while having the nerve to ask for help when necessary. The ideal candidate will have 3 - 5 years of experience in a United States architectural firm.

The Junior Architect/ Designer will be responsible for:

Collaborating on Design Projects

The Junior Architect will assist with the planning, design, and documentation for single-family residential projects in support of the team of Architects and Project Managers. Juniors brainstorm project ideas, complete design drawings in AutoCAD, review project proposals, support consultant coordination, track documents, logs, and records, and handle redlines. The Junior Architect will remain a part of the process from conception through construction.

Coordinating Project Details and Drawing Production

The Junior Designer/Architect will help develop and coordinate architectural project details, including (residential) project specifications, dimensions, and construction detailing, assisting with initial project research, and outlining project schedules and tasks in support of the projects. The candidate will also be required to participate in the production of architectural drawings and detailing during all phases, in conjunction with the Senior Architect’s requirements

Communicating with Various Involved Parties

The Junior Architect maintains communication with all parties involved in the project. They communicate with contractors to monitor the progress of a project. They are sometimes responsible for communicating with clients, noting their requests, answering their questions, and sending them project updates.

The right candidate will possess:

  • A minimum BA or BArch degree in Architecture. An MArch is preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in an architectural and design office environment in the United States
  • Experience with Auto-CAD required
  • Proficiency with additional architectural and design software is desirable
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure that work across multiple projects is appropriately categorized and prioritized efficiently and effectively
  • Strong communication skills when communicating with internal and external stakeholders, consultants, and other parties involved
  • A knack for autonomy in the workplace - you will be given the tools necessary to succeed, but it will be up to you to deliver expected results
