In 2021, Sasaki is moving to downtown Boston! and expanding our Architecture and Interiors ‘Green Team’. Our range of projects with ambitious environmental and climate goals continues to grow rapidly, and the projects demand sustainability-minded designers to collaborate on project teams, identify opportunities to improve building performance, reduce carbon emissions, and explore building materials that are healthy for people and the environment. The Sustainability Coordinator will work within project teams, and across our architectural practice to explore how every project can address climate change and improve resilience for our clients, our communities and the planet.

At present, Sasaki is working remotely due to COVID, but this position is expected to transition to working from our new downtown Boston office in early 2022.

At Sasaki we purposefully take on challenging work as opportunities to evolve and stretch. We look for teammates who are excited to engage fully from the get-go. Ideas matter tremendously, and as a Sasaki designer you will be encouraged to have a point of view, push design further, and develop a comfortable rapport with clients. For a mid-sized firm, we guard our small-firm feel focusing less on hierarchy than on working together to yield the best designs.

The most successful candidates can deliver design excellence, attention to detail, organization and time management skills, and potential to grow into leadership roles. Not every designer needs to deliver on all of these attributes at once, but this is the mix of talent we seek. If you think you can add something special to our team and our practice we would love to hear from you.

What you bring:

•    Environmental responsibility-- you want to use your architectural skills to address climate change, and have a positive and regenerative impact the world around you

•    Design chops – you’ve got vision, creativity, and technical skills

•    Social responsibility – you believe that every project can improve the public realm and create more equitable communities

•    Collaborative spirit – the idea of interdisciplinary teamwork gets you excited

•    Sharing ideas – you are interested in learning new sustainability apps and approaches, and share them with others

•    Proactive resourcefulness – you’re energetic and positive about solving problems and take initiative to find a way to ‘yes’

•    Passion – you have a healthy dose of ambition for yourself, your team, the work (and the firm you’ll come to love)

What you’ll do:

•    Collaborate on design projects with a strong sustainability agenda, and contribute your building performance skills to the team

•    Conduct energy modeling, carbon modeling, climate analyses, daylighting and radiation studies, and selection of environmentally responsible building materials

•    Assist with Sustainability Charrettes and periodic reviews on a range of Sasaki projects

•    Participate in meetings with clients, consultants, and permitting authorities

•    Work closely with the Director of Sustainability to advance firm-wide sustainability educational programs, research on new tools and ideas, and communications

•    Support 3rd party certifications including LEED, Zero Energy, Zero Carbon, WELL, Fitwel or Living Building Challenge.

Experience and Education:

•    A Professional Degree in Architecture from an accredited program

•    5-15 years of experience

High level of proficiency in:

-Building Performance Analytics: Energy modeling, carbon modeling, climate analyses, daylighting and radiation studies, outdoor thermal comfort analyses

-Design: Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Grasshopper, etc.

-Communication and Presentation: Adobe and Microsoft suites

•    LEED AP or other sustainability accreditations preferred
