Graphic Designer (Freelance 8-16 hours/week) for Architecture Firm : 2-5 years experience

David Baker Architects (DBA) is a progressive architecture firm with offices in San Francisco, Oakland, and Birmingham, Alabama, that creates acclaimed buildings in urban environments. Currently, we are seeking a Graphic Designer to collaborate with our in-house Communications team in an ongoing, flexible, freelance relationship to design a range of digital, print, and interactive materials for marketing, business development, and communications.

The position is remote, supporting all DBA office locations.

Areas of work may include:

  • Design and produce a range of print, digital, and web-based graphics, including proposals, presentations, display boards, information graphics, award submittals, newsletters, social media graphics, marketing collateral, graphic templates, and promotional materials.

  • Prepare and package final, press-ready mechanical files for print and web. 

  • Collaborate with architects and architectural designers on environmental graphics and wayfinding design.

  • Provide insight and design strategy on the firm’s marketing and communications planning.

  • Support Communications Director and act as a resource to the staff for graphic design needs.

  • Manage the firm’s digital image assets.

  • Image retouching.

  • Manage out-of-house graphic design or publishing initiatives.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • 2-5 years of professional experience in Graphic Design

  • Bachelor degree in Graphic Design or related field

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

  • Excellent design, typographic, and layout skills and sensibility

  • Strong verbal and written communication, with an eye for accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment while producing high quality work

  • Effectiveness in visual communication, including hand-sketching skills

  • Solid understanding of visual and branding concepts and their application to, relationship with, and integration into the built environment

  • Outstanding organizational, project management, file-organization, and archiving skills

  • Strong professional references

Preferred

  • Interest in issues of housing, community, social justice, and architecture

  • Experience in the A/E/C industry

  • Experience with basic photography and videography

  • Experience with environments design is a plus
