Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for an immediate opening at Robert Young Architects as a Project Architect/Manager. Project Architect/Managers at RYA are empowered with responsibility for their projects from conception through owner move-in. Prerequisites for the position include a passion for design and problem solving, a commitment to build well in the real world, exacting standards of self and others, and above all, a growth mindset.

Qualified candidates should have, at minimum:

  • 7 years post graduate professional experience, preferably in a small to medium sized firm focused on private residential projects for exacting clients.
  • Professional degree in Architecture from a US accredited school.
  • Licensed to practice architecture, or on-track to licensure.
  • At least 2 years experience as the primary project architect/manager reporting directly to a partner or principal, with the day-to-day responsibility of managing relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, etc.
  • High level of proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe suite software.
  • Direct experience managing staff production, including responsibility for managing staff time and expenses to provide contracted deliverables on budget.

Robert Young Architects is a 10 person firm with a large sunny studio space adjacent to the Highline in the West Chelsea arts district in Manhattan. Our team is currently working remotely. We expect to return to our studio as soon as we can do so safely.

RYA is driven by design. We hold ourselves to a simple but unrelenting standard of good design. First and most importantly, a good design must solve the problem effectively. Second, it must do so poetically, in a way that transcends its utility. RYA team members identify and exploit the unique qualities of each problem with an open mind, so the first often leads to the second. We work collaboratively and non-hierarchically in pursuit of the best design solutions. Every design is the result of countless iterations. Good ideas are adopted regardless of where they come from. Experimentation and free thinking is encouraged. Critical thinking is required. “Failure” is only unacceptable when it is not acknowledged and learned from.

Salary offered will commensurate with experience. RYA offers a comprehensive benefits package to all full time employees.

RYA is not able to sponsor visas. Applicants who are not authorized to work in the United States will not be considered.

All new hires will work remotely, along with the rest of the team, for an unknown period of time. A safe work environment is the priority. We are committed to adapt our space and ways of working to maintain safety without compromising the quality of our work.

Due to the current remote work situation, we encourage qualified candidates who do not live within commuting distance of NYC to apply for the position, as long you intend to move here in the near future.
