wHY LA seeks Interior Designer

wHY was founded by Kulapat Yantrasast in 2004 and has established itself in the international design vanguard for completing widely-acclaimed projects that serve the arts, communities, and the environment. Our practice is structured as an “Ecology of Disciplines”—four workshops focusing on ideas, buildings, grounds and objects—to approach projects from multiple angles resulting in holistic, sustainable designs. Design Thinking is at the core of our practice and we look for opportunities for innovation in all our projects.

Currently, the Los Angeles office is seeking an Interior Designer/Architect (8+years) with an interest in working in a multidisciplinary open office environment on a variety of projects. Ongoing projects in LA include art space renovations, a youth arts & culture center in the bay area, custom residences and some retail/mixed use projects. 

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Lead the interior design working with the project teams and office leadership. Advocate fro design excellence while meeting client adn project objectives.
  • Lead design presentations to clients
  • Prepare required documents, including but not limited to permit drawings, construction documents, and FFE specifications.  Resolve complex technical and design issues
  • Manage the interior design and FFE scope of work within a project.  Manage vendor, contractor and client relationships and team communication through all phases. Manage project costs and schedules. 
  • Prepare proposals and participate in contract development and negotiations. Assist in the procurement of new work

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • 8+ years of experience in the interior design of mid-size institutional or commercial projects as well as custom residence. 
  • Excellent design and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational, communication and coordination skills
  • Self motivated, with the ability to work on multiple project simultaneously.
  • Team player, that is interested in different viewpoints. 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Sketchup and Adobe Suite. Familiarity with Studio Designer or other management software
  • Basic knowledge of codes, and industry standards.

Additional Preferred Skills and Credentials

  • Experience in exhibit design 
  • Architectural license, membership in professional organizations.
  • Experience working in Los Angeles and/or New York with strong network with relevant vendors, fabricators and suppliers. 
  • LEED certification or other experience/credentials in sustainable design

Position Details & Application Procedures:

This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience and demonstrated skill level.  This position is for the Los Angeles office, but candidate may be required to work with team in the NY office.
