Our expanding San Francisco team is looking for an experienced Architect/Facade Engineer with a range of technical design expertise to lead the envelope design on a variety of high-profile local and international projects, ranging in both scale and scope with a strong background in materials and facade system detailing. 

 DESCRIPTION

We are looking for people with the following:

  • A good degree in engineering or architecture, and preferably a relevant postgraduate degree
  • 3+ years’ proven experience in facade design and detailing in a consulting capacity from concept stage through execution
  • Working knowledge of US standards
  • A rounded knowledge of the engineering aspects of facades
  • Good understanding of design parameters for a wide range of different materials
  • Strong sketching and drawing skills using CAD software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative approach
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

 Good communication skills and experience of developing relationships with clients and external parties are essential.

 Candidates will preferably be based in the US although EOC will consider applicants outside of the US and those requiring sponsorship.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing a number of projects, working with the client, architect and other engineering consultants to determine the best facade design outcomes.
  • Leading projects, producing sketch, drawing and specification deliverables, coordinated with other parties and ensuring a high standard of work
  • Carrying out site inspections, factory visits, witnessing of mock-ups and testing, preparing technical reports
  • Representing Eckersley O’Callaghan at workshops, design team meetings and site meetings with our clients and collaborators
  • Mentoring junior team members; participating in knowledge sharing
  • Contributing to internal R&D initiatives and production of technical notes
  • Developing relationships with clients and external industry bodies

 PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Working knowledge of digital design / modelling software
  • Use of relevant design software, including structural analysis, building physics assessments and glass selection tools
  • Experienced in use of CAD software
  • A keen interest in architecture and a willingness to travel
