SoulCycle Development is seeking a Head of New Studio Design to bring innovation expertise and design leadership to our growing team.  


The Head of New Studio Design establishes and drives the overall strategy and execution of look and feel of architecture and interiors of all SoulCycle built environments nationally and internationally. This individual will be a highly talented, highly creative individual who can continue and advance the legacy of designing and innovating market-specific and prototypical studios. This individual will direct, supervise and confer with development and construction management, and other stakeholders, in order to realize thoughtful design and innovation concepts, impose the discipline of schedule and budget on all parties and help to instill cooperation between the various parties. As we work to refine our studio prototype, this individual will utilize and develop a robust feedback loop to iterate design in an effort to continually improve our product offering. This is a senior-level position and will report into the VP of Development & Design.


The responsibilities and duties of this position described here are representative of those that the Head of Studio Design will be asked to perform. This does not substantiate a comprehensive list and other duties may be added.

Leadership & Management

  • Provide management and oversight of the Design Team. Provide direction and cross-departmental leadership to the Project Manager(s) and Creative Team counterparts on  per-project and process-oriented basis.
  • Coordinate and lead project onboarding as well project kick off(s) with the Projects Manager(s). Ensure consistent delivery and implementation of studio design concepts through all project phases.
  • Develop and drive all aspects of the design-related project schedule(s).  
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of SC brand standards. Work closely with the Design Team to perform regular maintenance and ensure that consultant and GC networks are up to speed with changes. Identify opportunities for improvement with other SC Departments.
  • Work closely with the real estate and acquisitions team to provide thoughtful feedback during site acquisition and relevant development phases.  Aid in the evaluation of prospective locations for suitability as a SoulCycle studio. Conduct site visits, employ consultant teams, and work with any other outside parties to fully understand the design challenges present at any potential locations.  
  • Regularly schedule design and process development meetings with project consultant teams to assist in keeping studio development on schedule and on budget. Assist in facilitating any weekly meetings and generally work to “train” consultants on SC process and brand standards.
  • Maintain and distribute meeting minutes for all consultant review meetings, including kickoff.
  • Regularly perform side-by-side reviews (page-turners) at project milestones throughout the design and development process.  Facilitate final sign-off (exec approval) for schematic plans as milestone component of project schedule. Oversee and provide feedback for all forward-facing exhibits including signage.
  • Partner with the Development Team to provide necessary documentation for site approval packages.
  • Assist the Design Team by maintaining and cultivating strong consultant relationships. Ensure that standard terms of agreement, NDAs, and any other standard agreements are developed and in place prior to proceeding with new consultant work.


  • Oversee the development of conceptual studio design, new and refined experiential elements, studio layouts, material selection, and product selection for all SoulCycle studios that are consistent with brand voice, brand vision, on-time and on-budget.
  • Work closely with the Design Team to compile and present creative sign-off packages to the CEO and executive team at regular intervals.    
  • Oversee the RFP process, selection and management for all external creative partners.
  • Regularly present concepts and provide in-depth review of all new studio designs with the Projects Managers and development team at large at regular intervals.  
  • Assist in the development of Test Fit (blocking) plan options to evaluate the programmatic potential of new sites.


  • Refine and execute our Innovation program, “Soul LAB”.  Regularly test and cultivate new design and experiential concepts that can be implemented across our existing studios.
  • Work with the Design Department to develop new and refine standard details.
  • Consistently monitor construction of new studios for implementation of new and standard details.  
  • Oversee revisions as necessary for bulletin issue such that all components of a studio build are consistently improving and thoroughly documented.
  • Closely monitor design, construction and fitness trends to evaluate opportunities to enhance, manage or change brand standards on a per-studio basis.


  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience managing architecture, interiors or creative in a dynamic fast-growing business.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing a team of direct reports.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Design or a related degree required. Post-graduate degree a plus.
  • Ability to travel 3-5 days per month, minimum.
  • Experience working on International project development a plus.

  • Highly effective at building and maintaining relationships with cross-functional teams, specifically with operations.

Functional Skills

  • Working knowledge of scheduling or task management software such as MS Project or equivalent. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Sketch-Up.
  • Working knowledge of model building codes including but not limited to IBC.  Xperia ce
  • Strong project management skills (ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines).
  • Expert understanding of the SoulCycle Brand and understanding of on-Brand design.
  • Technical expertise in both Architecture and Interior Design. A conceptual thinker with strong spatial cognition.
