The Department of Architecture and Urban Design (A.UD) at UCLA invites applications for a full-time, open rank, tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Architectural Design beginning in fall 2018. Ranked the #6 Graduate Program among architecture schools in the 2017 Design Intelligence Survey, UCLA A.UD is well-recognized for its excellence in design, scholarship, and research. Degree programs in the department include a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies (B.A.), a professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.I), a post-professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch.II) in advanced architectural design and research, and a Master of Arts/Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (M.A./Ph.D.)

We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following subject areas: Design technologies, broadly interpreted, involving computation and/or digital fabrication, theories of technology, implications for design and practice specific to a rapidly evolving technological landscape, and pedagogical approaches unique to the teaching of design technology in the context of architectural education. Design practice, especially in areas of the profession strongly driven by emerging technologies of design and their influence on building systems and professional practice. Design theory, research, and pedagogy, with emphasis on current applications to/implications for design practice. We also welcome applicants whose focus lies in other subject areas of similar relevance to contemporary architectural scholarship and practice. Regardless of focus, all applicants must demonstrate a strong and ongoing contribution to the field, including a commitment to academic scholarship in the context of a major research university such as UCLA. An established body of published work that indicates future promise is especially desired. Candidate qualifications must include evidence of exceptional skill and pedagogical sophistication in architectural design studio teaching as well as in practice, research and/or creative work related to design. Candidates should have three or more years of university-level teaching experience. We seek candidates with precisely articulated and focused interests, the ability to engage in the full breadth of the architecture curriculum and demonstrable expertise that engages contemporary practice. A Master of Architecture degree or higher is a requirement for this position. Responsibilities will include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, research, advising and service.

Recruitment #2. Position for Tenure Track, Open Rank Professor in History &

Theory of Architecture, 2018-19 AY

Deadline: 2/28/2018. Applications will only be accepted online. Please apply using the university’s application tool at: https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/a...

The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design invites applications for an open rank position in the history and theory of architecture and/or urbanism. Both junior and senior candidates are encouraged to apply. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2018. The department seeks a scholar whose work is productively related both to contemporary debates in historical and theoretical research as well as to the current culture of design. We are especially interested in candidates whose work makes new territories of intellectual speculation available whether by expanding the traditional historical field, considering cultural perspectives that bring new insight or address those formerly marginalized and repressed, revising the definition of architecture as discipline, or stretching the territories of urban, environmental and global consideration. The successful candidate will be active in the MA/PhD program, the undergraduate architecture major, and will offer core courses in our Professional Degree program.

The Department has earned an international reputation, so preference will be given to candidates whose work exhibits the same reach or demonstrates the potential to do so. We welcome candidates whose demonstrated experience in teaching, research, and community service has prepared them to contribute to a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. All candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The workload is determined at the discretion of the Department Chair, and requires a service commitment to the Department and the University as requested by the Chair.
