Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners, an award-winning architecture and urban design firm in New York founded in 1968. Urban Design and planning are central to BBB’s mission and form a significant part of our multi-disciplinary practice. We work with clients and communities to envision the future of neighborhoods, campuses, and cities, and to imagine and plan new developments. Our projects range from campus plans to neighborhood rezoning to streetscape redesign and involve both public and private clients.

We are seeking an intermediate-level urban designer to join our studio who is committed to the creation of innovative and thoughtful urban places. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of building form and space planning from prior architecture experience, with an ability and interest in representing design concepts at the city block and campus scale. The candidate should have a strong interest in urban design and integrating urban form, streetscapes, open space, and circulation.

Our studio is collaborative in nature and joining our team offers growth potential within the studio and within the firm.

The candidate should possess:

  • Professional degree in Architecture. Landscape Architecture, or Urban Design. Candidates with degrees in Urban Planning will only be considered if work samples demonstrate experience in design at a conceptual and schematic level.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience with some experience on urban design or campus planning projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in working at the urban and multi-building scale, including work samples of analytical mapping, conceptual diagrams, design development drawings, and rendered perspectival views of design proposals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work precisely and efficiently, even at the conceptual level

  • High quality visualization skills in 2D and 3D

  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe CS, Rhino, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Grasshopper (or other comparable parametric design software). Proficiency is Revit is preferred but not required.

  • A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility and resourcefulness

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and team working skills

  • Strong organizational and file management skills

  • Prior experience in project management is a plus
