One of the main goals on this project for us, was to keep the house as authentic and original as possible.  We minimized any additions and at the areas where we added and renovated - we used the architectural vocabulary of the original house.

Another goal was to make the house as “green” as possible- the original Architects talked about the buildings relationship with nature- and we were able to follow that same line of thought.  We installed a geo-thermal system that heats the house through radiant tubing.  The ceilings and walls were insulated with Bio-Based insulation.  The 2 largest flat roof areas covered with a “live roof” and the wood floors in the house were constructed of bamboo.

The existing owners are avid art collectors and gardeners.  The revived level five finish throughout the house has become the final stroke to display the art.  A second floor bedroom overlooking the property has been converted to a paint studio for the client.  The original design of the house included a large round “pool”.  At the time it was built- it was the largest in-ground pool in the state of CT.  There is an additional “round” pool attached directly to the house that is kept as an actual swimming pool.

There is a guest house on the property and although it is connected by open breezeways- it sits on the property like a living garden element.

Over the years the 5 acres has become a personal “botanical garden”.  There is a claim that the Gingko tree is the oldest in the state of CT.  The property is in constant bloom throughout 8 months of the year.  The house is in constant demand to be used by the local garden clubs for events.
