Production facilities have historically led to pollution issues, prompting the relocation of factories to areas with inexpensive labor and land. However, spatial separation between production and consumption has caused urban decay and population shifts. Nevertheless, as the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the fragility of global distribution networks, a new urban framework can be envisioned with Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology. While CCS is still a technology in its infancy, it prompts us to envision how production facilities can be integrated into neighborhoods and cities once again with the promise of a healthier environment.
