This is a residential project that was for a married couple who are both attorneys and their two boys. This was my first residential project with real clients, but I could not get to interview them.
I first developed my design idea by identifying what clients would want from a vacation house. Since a vacation house is to give a getaway from everyday life, my design goal was to give the clients the feeling of strangeness and refreshment that they would not feel at their work places and home. The atypical floor plan and custom-designed furniture pieces are derived from this goal.
The material and color palettes are localized to resemble the shape and color scheme of the local natural landscape as a vacation house is about giving a resting place in nature, and I provided them multiple meditative seating experiences as I wanted to connect deeper thinking to resting.
