M2X3

M2X3 derives its name from an old Boston practice of demarcating timber with marriage marks in the form of roman numerals. In this case the numbers, 2030, indicate the projected year in which the majority of the world’s population shifts from rural to urban cities.  With such a shift, this competition called for the re-imagination of the use of timber as a renewable source of building material in mid rise buildings. What  is proposed is a modular system where each module contains the infrastructure for the facade, column structure, and a floor and beam system.  They all tie together by taking advantage of woods innate ability to bend. Varying degrees of lean in the column allows for the system to fluctuate and create a dynamic exterior facade.
