Public Safety Answering Center II

Completed in 2015

Public Safety Answering Center II in the Bronx, New York, is the new home for the NYPD and the FDNY 911 emergency call center. This 225,000 Sq.Ft. façade project was a contract through the City of New York (DDC) and Tishman Construction, and was developed with and based on the design from SOM Architects from New York.

The Aluminum Composite Façade in the 2 tone colors of “Brushed Aluminum” and “Pewter” is made from over 11,000 ACM pans, erected as 10’ and 11’ tall by 12’ and 16’ long mega panels.
Because of the high security nature of this building, the challenge in the design was to develop this light weight cladding system that would meet all the design criteria, and that could be erected as mega panels and be attached to an all concrete shear-wall construction building. Unlike the typical Island Façade systems, the water proofing and insulation was field applied to the concrete shear wall, and then the façade mega panels were erected with a fully roof suspended monorail system that hoisted the panels and the 2-story hanging scaffold for the installation crews.
Due to the massive mechanical plenum area’s and roof top mechanical enclosures, there was an additional 90,000 Sq.Ft. of corrugated cladding wall systems build in place.
