Bariatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention and treatment of obesity. The Phuket Bariatric Clinic Retreat is based on the learning self-care and understanding how thoughts, feelings, beliefs and subsequent behaviors prevent a healthy lifestyle. This Retreat will be a place of recovery for patients who have undergone invasive bariatric surgery. It is an interactive, psycho-educational and experiential program that strives to give participants the true meaning and value to their purpose in life.

    In the view that the Bariatric Clinic Retreat is a healthcare center, the design of the building had to be strongly considered, making form follow function. The building will consists of a clinic, gym, spa, pool, learning center, demonstration kitchen, private beach, night market, tennis court and twelve rooms for lodging. The mountainous site will have to be heavily manipulated to create a slightly sloped pathway, providing patients with naturally light exercise without them having to engage in strenuous activity while walking around the campus retreat.  

   The Thai cultural influence will be incorporated throughout the campus as well with an authentic night market being a prominent feature at the retreat. This would mean that patients could learn to make healthy choices on selecting food, as well as learn to prepare healthy meals at the demonstration kitchen, where nutritionists would be readily available to educate patients on how to prepare low-calorie meals and foster healthy eating habits and life styles.
