EXPO

During my fourth year, I designed a Natatorium for Hudson Square. Instead of concealing all the additional programs of work out spaces and spas within the building, I decided to minimize the footprint on the allocated site and provide a series of cantilevered volumes on Spring Street to activate the desolate street. The volumes would push the various programs of the Natatorium out onto the facade while doubling up as the base for outdoor space above enclosed by a metal mesh facade. This faceted facade was designed through grasshopper which enabled a parametric play in the size of volumes meeting square footage requirements while manipulating the X and Y placement along the shear wall. The play of cantilevered volumes were mirrored internally with punctures through the wall enclosing the pool to create an internal micro condition of what was happening on a larger scale on the street side facade.
