In the summer of 2013 ICS Builders, Inc. commenced a renovation of the ‘David Dubinsky’ Faculty Dining Facility at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology. Totaling some 6,800 gross sq ft the facility is the institute’s flagship dinning and event area and is routinely used for fundraising and awards functions. The scope of work encompassed a full gut renovation of the existing faculty dinning and events areas and entailed a 3 coat plaster finish on the walls, a metalworx® ceiling system, as well as a custom glass operable wall to separate a lecture area from the main dining area. The project faced a number of challenges, which included maximizing the ceiling height while making the mechanical, electrical and sprinkler systems effective as well as aesthetically relevant to the Metalworx® ceiling system. Additionally the lighting fixtures had to be customized in order to integrate with the specified Lutron dimming system. The ceiling installation itself required a high degree of precision as the design called for reveals and linear light fixtures within those reveals. Each reveal had to be held within 1/16” Tolerance per 100 ft span. The space was vacant during construction and ICS executed an ambitious fast track schedule including, Carpentry and Drywall, Painting Carpeting, VCT, mechanical electrical and plumbing. to meet an October 14th deadline.
