Whitney Museum in the Meatpacking District
The new Whitney Museum aims to enhance the urban condition of the Chelsea area and perception of various art pieces within gallery spaces. The massing of the building is divided into four zones that are distributed around three cores. These cores serve as the main vertical circulation and are situated in the public space. Moreover, the morphogenetic envelope that engulfs the program is the DNA for circulation between the public and private spaces. This envelope is composed of two intertwined membranes that serve as apertures and provide structural support for the museum.
