The objective of the program was to be able to design a tall structure utilizing various methods of timber construction, the building was not supposed to have electricity so the only way to get all the way to the top observatory was trough ramps that met the ADA standards. We were also given an area of 30 ft. wide by 180ft. long. The spaces that we were required to add in the program were: a dry laboratory, a wet laboratory, an office, observation desks on various levels to view different habitats, restrooms and a private residence for rangers to stay overnight.  I started by developing the ramps which dictated one of the most important aspects of the design, I noticed that if the ramps were going on a spiral it would give me the height that I needed when they came on top of one another. Another major influence on the design was the decks, the way that the skin of the building is design, takes the user to the decks with no chance to get distracted along the way. The skin is a louver wall maximizing flow of air, also the louver serve as cover where the user can only peak outside but not really see anything until they get to the designated area.on the SW facade, there is an integration between louvers and vertical elements, that are operable and made out of fabric that help the building provide shade on the facade with the most sun exposure. once the user gets to the top level a 360 view is provided under a shaded area, after experiencing each level of habitat on the way up the user gets to experience the everglades in its entiriety.
