Design Pavilion, “Open to the Sky” | May 7–15, 2022 | Times Square, Manhattan
Pop Up / Drop Off is a research project conducted by the d.r.a. Lab (Center for Design Research in Architecture) based on student work from the FA21 Advanced Design Studio - Plastic, Waste, Inflatables. Produced for NYCxDesign 2022 in partnership with Design Pavilion and Pneu.haus, the self-forming structure leverages geometry and air pressure, making a Pop Up spectacle for the Drop Off of recyclable film plastic (made out of Pneuhaus' scraps). Advocating for design activism, PUDO raises awareness of film plastic waste through sustainable geometry and use of repurposed materials to make a lightweight inflatable structure.
