FA 2020 | Comprehensive Design I | Gowanus Cohousing
Proposal for Multi-Generational Cohousing in the Gowanus area. Just like how networks of streets, park space, and housing shape neighborhoods, we propose an architecture that explores and reframes these relationships through the lens of cohousing. Individual units with extended shared living spaces form streets, open in section, where tenants interact with their neighbors. Combining everyday activity, the path of the sun, and visual connectivity creates a new, responsive domestic environment. The streets allow for all people to come together and reshape their living spaces as a collaborative effort, creating a sense of community that is unique to its time and urban context.
