The mission of this studio was to design and build a single family residential home for a family in the Barelas community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the goal was to implement sustainable strategies and maintain within Habitat for Humanity’s budget.
With that in mind, utilizing pre-fabricated modular construction served to be the best design solution within this site. We integrated sustainable strategies that addressed site challenges: water conservation and optimizing daylighting. In addition to running daylighting analysis through Sefaira, the house is oriented east to west in an effort to maximize southern exposure. The roof is a customized pre-fabricated piece that functions as a drain to direct rainwater to a cistern.
This project was intended to take three years to build. This studio took the project from concept design to construction, where we built the pre-fabricated framing.
