I have some spare time (no prizes for guessing why) and want to teach myself flash. I'd appreciate any tips, links or advice on how to go about doing this. My main task is to convert a powerpoint presentation that uses transitions to rather good effect to "animate" drawings and renderings, into a flash presentation.
My other task is to convey a cnc milled project for which I find static diagramming to be a bit inadequate.
So any advice on how to go about learning flash and specific tips on if and how a ppt presentation could be converted to flash. Thanks in advance.
Motion and Shape tweening in flash is very easy. You should be able to do that without too much trouble. Its a tad more complicated (because there are so many more options) than Power Point, but in the end, it not only looks much better, but its very easily expanded upon and added to.
Keep in mind that Flash's real value is in its coding language, ActionScript. So most tutorials will be about coding. You should be able to easily find tweening and drawing tutorials by googling exactly what you want to do.
that being said...
the best places ive found for flash help are these ones... other than republic of code...
http://www.kirupa.com/
(get involved in their forum if you can, its invaluable... cant even tell you how many times ive found answers from people on that site when i couldnt find anything anywhere else)
Kirupa and Republic of code are probably the best organized and most helpful flash sites ive found. But really, the key to learning flash by yourself is patience. When you cant figure something out, google it. Literally.... google it.... you'll eventually find all the answers you need. And if that fails, try the forums, Kirupa in particular is super helpful and respectful for people trying to teach themselves flash/action script.
Im also around... along with a couple other people familiar with flash who ive gotten help from in the past, so bump this thread in the future if you need help and cant find an answer yourself.
