Hi,
is anyone currently in the Portland metro area? Now that graduation is just around the corner for me (hopefully) I'm having a serious look at where I'll be living/working and Portland looked like a nice place. How is the architecture/building/development market looking there?
It's pretty bad there, from what I hear anecdotally. Two of my classmates moved to Portland three years ago for work, and both were laid off in 2009. Neither of them have been able to find work with arch firms since the layoffs.
Although not the worst in the US, Oregon's overall unemployment of 11.8% is still pretty high. (link) Portland's a great city, but you might want to look at some other options for relocation, unless you have some good connections with firms there.
Portland for work
