For the landscape architects out there, how many have you made major location changes during your career? Are your skills generally pretty transferable between cities and even countries?
In my own case, I'm an American considering the MLA program at UBC (or UW if I get in), but I'm currently living/in a relationship in Japan, and also previously lived and still have a strong personal interest in Ireland. Any thoughts on the urban design-related connections between the Pacific Northwest, Japan, and Ireland (or the UK)? I'm sure the environmental and horticultural aspects vary quite a lot, but are the general principles of urban sustainability universal enough to make going from one to another possible?
I'd be interested in your experiences moving between any countries or regions.
