have a friend in dallas who told me about event sponsored by AFH where all proceeds go to help haiti -- but haven't heard of actual charrette or actual projects being done there.
They should hire the Chinese miltiary They built something like 300,000 structures of temporary housing after the Sichuan earthquak in something like 20 days.
Wonder what kind of drywall they used in those 'disposable' houses... Also if those will end up simply become de-facto permanent(ly shitty) houses. Ugh.
I doubt it'll become permanent. Their people tend to riot if you leave them in those things... they'll rehouse them in ugly east-west facing tower slabs in the periphery of their cities within a year or two. Of course, the next earthquake will just knock down the poorly constructed tower slabs and the cycle will begin anew.
there is something a little disconcerting about putting a majority of african descendants into shipping containers when their ancestors came over packed like sardines

Architecture for Humanity made much progress in Haiti yet?
just how well are they actually connected and how do they organize so quickly?

That's a good idea. They also use shipping container housing in Asia. Maybe they could do that.
