Estimating Software

whatever

Anyone know of a simple but capable estimating program? It must be something that calculates for completed drawings, not as you draw.

Yes... Revit does that....................................................

I am giving a presentation on estimation using Revit to the Professional Construction Estimators Association next week. At this point, we are able to extract some meaningful data from the BIM model, but most of the calculation still has to be entered into excel, then completed and verified using more traditional methods. Several programming bugs complicate the process, little things like not being able to schedule or account for wall sweeps.

There are some softwares that are not integrated with a BIM model that have been used effectively. I have only limited knowledge of these platforms.

outed

look at costlink, which is made by the fine folks at bsd - www.bsdsoftlink.com we haven't used it much, but swear by their specification writing software - i swear, do a couple of projects with it and you'll kill someone if you ever have to go back to masterspec.

bsd also has a new package out that ties directly into a revit model. very excited by how it looks, but not sure exactly how well it 'works'...
