I just got a new computer, and am now having problems in both studio max and photoshop (maybe other programs haven't totally tested yet). the computer has and intel i7 core, 8 gigs of ram and windows 7 pro 64 the video card could be better but it is a nvidia 230.
Basically there is lag, when erasing in photoshop there is a delay and when doing even basic things in max, drawing a box, i can click and drag and it is about a 1/2 second to a second until the base of the box appears.
I looked around on the internet and didn't find any fix, though there was a bit of discussion in photoshop forums. It is really annoying. Any ideas?
I have noticed that the 'themes' in windows 7 make the programs very slow.
I would suggest setting the theme to 'windows7 basic', and yes, make sure all the drivers are current. I am running win7 64 on a couple of computers and they seem to run fine. Oh yes, on photoshop, make sure you are running the 64 bit photoshop.
I got the newest nvidia driver and changed the 3d setting to 50/50 performance and quality, then changed some settings in the max preferences. though it was guess work.
this seemed to work but on testing the first two or three boxes you draw lag then it goes away. no idea why. photoshop is fine now.
will check my core temperatures tonight. sounds interesting.
that thing does get mad hot.

if you built this comp, I'd suggest making sure the GPU/display drivers were installed properly. but I'm guessing you bought it assembled?
Yeah, it is an HP but I will look at the gpu, that kind of goes with some other stuff I found. thanks
