Palace of the Soviets

I only just head about the Palace of the Soviets.

The plans were laid before WWII, under Stalin's government...and ambitious would be an understatement. The building was would have been 1,392 feet tall, and then have a 260 ft statue of Lenin on top of that. For 1930 something, that would have been freaking huge.

Apparently they tore it down after the war started, and now it's a church.

So...what do you think? A missed architectural wonder?
