is anyone out there planning to upgrade windows XP to windows 7 on the bootcamp partition? by upgrade i of course mean the clean install. i have a 2.66 ghz macbook pro with 4gb RAM, and i want to upgrade my windows OS to take advantage of the 64 bit, especially for when i decide to eventually upgrade my RAM.
has any experienced problems upgrading? i'm wondering what's the best way to go about the process. should i completely wipe my bootcamp partition and start over? but would that mean that i'm no longer "upgrading" to windows 7 and would have to buy the full version of windows 7 instead of the upgrade version? i'd rather buy the upgrade version to save $100, but i'm just looking for the easiest way to go about this.
you can buy the upgrade license of windows 7 to upgrade from XP, but the catch is that you'll still be required to do a clean install through a process that leaves your old settings from xp in a folder called windows.old. what im wondering though, is whether i can go through that process from within my bootcamp partition and just run the the upgrade process as if i were acutally running it on a PC, or if i need to erase my partition entirely and start from scratch.

If you're migrating from a 32bit OS to 64bit, you should do a clean install.
My friend has Windows 7 32-bit on bootcamp and it seems to be fine.
You should be able to run it as if you were on a PC, but I highly recommend a clean install.
