SketchUp help for a Monday morning meeting?

liberty bell

SketchUp question: I'm trying to import a .jpg of the client's sign, and every time the image comes in the right 1/3 of it is cropped off. I can't get the complete image in, and can't find anything in the SketchUp forums or Google that addresses this. Advice, anyone?

Perhaps stick it in one of the texture folders, then paint a rectangle with it and use the position texture function to size it correctly?

How do I "stick it" in a texture folder? Forgive me, I'm a complete idiot about SU, I only know enough to be dangerous, as they say!

I'd had a similar issue several years ago (as a sketchup newbie) but just tried a couple images just now without issue.

Are you bringing it in as a "paint" -- creating a material? Or are you just doing File>Import>Jpeg?

I know that once you bring in an image as part of creating a material you can right click>Texture>Position and then move the image around...

In the Materials dialog box you can create a material (icon is a black box w/ a "+" sign on its lower left corner). Click that then the brown cardboard box looking thing with the white paper and blue arrow coming out of it. Navigate to your client's sign jpeg. "Paint" it on a rectangle. Right click>Texture>Position to slide it around as needed.

Thanks arktek, but I just tried importing it as a material and it's still cropped.

I've saved the entire image as a pdf, but then I don't know how to crop it (the pdf saves as a page size) in SU.

Oh, wait...let me try that arktek...

Nope. So bizarre: when I make a material out of it, the little square sample in the Colors box shows the entire image - but when I paint with it, it's cropped. It must be a problem with the original jpg.

did you try scaling the texture?

right click face, click on "texture," then "position." the circle will change the scale of the image.

OK, got it. I imported the pdf, not the jpg, as the paint, and it worked. Mind of an ass-backward way to do it, but I'm fine with workarounds! Thanks for your help, arktek and NLW2!! I'll posit the image as soon as the client is OK with making it public...

Yep, toaster, once I got the complete image in I scaled it up to fit. Thank you!

This same thing happened to me. It seemed to be that the jpeg was saved from a Photoshop file that was set up in CMYK mode. When I changed to Photoshop mode to RGB and resaved the jpeg, the jpeg then imported correctly into SketchUp.
