I am a Graduate of Architecture from Nepal. My plan was to fly to States for my masters in the Fall of 2013. Applied to 9 universities and got into 3 - Columbia, Michigan and Washington-St.Louis. As much as I wanted to go these universities, the tuition fees and boards were way too much for me to afford, even with one university offering half tuition. So I dropped everyone of them.
I never had a back up plan and now feels like I'm in a dead end zone. All in all, I have three options.
1- Apply again
a) WIth drastic improvement in my portfolio and experiences to have higher chances of more scholarships, which I don't
b) Find a sponsor who will pay my dues, for which I don't have any linkages
c) Apply for European Universities, as I've heard they offer good scholarships. But going through all the hustles for the application is a bit of overwhelming for me at the moment
2- Apply for jobs - for which I have very fringe of hope
Apply to a wider range of schools. Do some research on this site to see which schools are known for providing more financial aid, including to international students. Becoming a stronger applicant isn't going to increase your chances of getting a full-ride scholarship at those schools since most selective programs don't offer merit scholarships to some of their applicants but rather offer a certain amount of need-based aid to every admitted student, the upper limit of which varies by school.
^ second this. it's fair to aim high, but you have to understand what will be available with doing so. you're now facing the realities of the other part of applying to school.. money. like snail said, this time around don't just check off the top ten list. maybe in applying to other schools that offer more money, you can talk about how money is a huge factor, and the only way you will be able to make your dream come true is with some assistance. if a school (not on the list you mentioned) really wants you to attend, they will do what they can to make it happen.
