Adding to yesterday’s economic news of jobs leaving to the economy, oil prices reaching new highs, and the Dow dropping 400 points, hometown airline United announced they have reached a buy-out agreement with their flight attendants.

Attendants with 15-years of service and who are at least 45 will be allowed to leave the company voluntarily, and will be entitled to severance packages and retiree travel benefits. This enables 600 attendants to leave the company.

Officials at United say this will mitigate the impact of a 14 percent network capacity decrease by the end of the year, and another 11 percent in 2009
