so far I've been accepted to UVa, OSU, UIUC, and last night I found out about Penn. I think I'm leaning towards Penn, especially since they offered me scholarship monies.
whoop congrats stonerock! thats great. don't get discouraged about GSD... in the past they have been known to send some later acceptances. i was waitlisted in 2005 at the end of march?! so maybe there is still hope?? And last year it looks like it spanned two weeks or more.
beatbox: congrats on gsd and i'm sure penn will come soon. it is very competitive applying for post prof in Larch. where did you get your undergrad from?
Thanks bcnDaye. I went to the University of Oregon. And yourself?
I just received an email response from Penn.
Unless I get a phone call this week, I should expect a rejection letter sometime after the 17th.......har har...seriously..Admission folks have no sense of humor.
beatbox:
went to clemson u. for BLA. best expierences came from collaborations with arch department. i liked it but you have to be self motivated... i guess like most landscape programs (from what I hear) are like that.
wait you did get into penn or no? gsd would be great... i still have hope, but its not looking so good. ha. sure you don't want to give that spot up for me?!? hahaha.
hmm okay. i'm getting antsy waiting for UW since i think they already notified by this time last year, and they were my top choice. i'm just trying not to think about the other schools because i have less of an idea of when to expect anything...although it's not good to know that oregon already sent out letters!
i also applied for Berkeley MLA II, but i have a bad feeling about it. I def filled out the online app. the last day and did not realize there were 2 essays...uhhg. needless to say one was pretty weak.
i assume their notifications will come out next week.
oh ya...the personal history statement vs the statement of purpose or whatever it was screwed with me...
i applied to berkeley, UO, UW, cal poly pomona, university of arizona, and university of minnesota. i already heard from and got into the last two, so i'm relieved that i got in sooomewhere, but i would love to go to one of the other schools. except maybe cal poly- that was kind of the given, practical school to apply to since i'm based in southern california
it is def a relief getting in somewhere but i still have some hope for gsd or berkeley. UT austin offered me the only post prof MLA. i would basically have only two required classes and from there i could take whatever studios support my research.... arch, sustainable, urban design. its def. a tempting proposal but i'm hanging on by a string for harvard.
Now I'm starting to think I should scan the letter high-res so I can print it out at 30X40 or so and mount it on foamcore. Maybe they'll hang it in the admissions office or something...
i got my expected berkeley rejection today! i thought it was okay, since i got a big envelope from oregon too! it turns out it was just a housing brochure with a letter saying that this is NOT a notice of admission...that's evil.
uhhhg that is evil. berkeley rejection ehhh?! first school known to send rejections before admissions! hungry: good luck with oregon, maybe the admissions will come soon!
are you in the west? I wonder if i should be expecting mine??
yup i'm in southern california. my letter was postmarked on the 11th. maybe i was just so obviously not a fit for them; i know that my essay was messed up - somehow when i copied it into the online application, part of it got lost :P hopefully you'll do better!
Admissions starting up...
just got the acceptance email from illinois..so look out if you applied there.
Botanicon: IIT, UIC or UIUC ?
UIUC
congrats botanicon!
Thanks very much.
have any MLA applicants been notified by GSD?
GSD letters were mailed 03.07.2008
oye, thanks. Here's hoping the blizzard put a damper on mail.
stoney, where else did you get in?

beatbox... did u call the gsd?
and from what i know MLA first professionals have been sent...have not hear of any MLA post prof.
@stonerock-
you found out last night bout Penn for MLA?
@stonerock-
nevermind i saw your post on the commiserate thread
i guess i'm 0 for 3 - i haven't heard anything from anyone
time to swallow some pills i guess
bcnDaye...I was notified via snail mail on March 10th for the MLA Post Prof. program at the GSD. Packages were mailed on March 7th.
And Congratulations stonerock....I am still awaiting news from Penn.
Thanks beatbox and good luck with Penn. I'm a first professional applicant and hoping I find something in my mailbox from GSD today. fingers crossed.
Which is your first choice: GSD, Penn or other?
Stonerock, I applied for the MLA 2 program at Penn, GSD, and USC. I have been notified from the USC and the GSD.
I'm not sure of my first choice. It's a tossup between Penn and the GSD.......
beatbox: congrats on gsd and i'm sure penn will come soon. it is very competitive applying for post prof in Larch. where did you get your undergrad from?

Well if Penn is calling and now emailing acceptances to the MLA, I guess I can just count myself out altogether.
This really effing sucks.

Don't know yet. I sent an email asking about Penn notifications and got a terse reply of "Notifications will be mailed on Monday, March 17th"
There was no word of emails or phone calls prior to that date.
I will probably find out from Penn sometime on the 19th or so since I'm on the west coast.
any MLA applicants heard from the west coast schools...? or applied?
Hungry...I found out from USC last week. I believe the University of Oregon has already sent out letters. Don't know about UW or Cal Poly.
I applied to Berkeley and haven't heard anything.
hmm okay. i'm getting antsy waiting for UW since i think they already notified by this time last year, and they were my top choice. i'm just trying not to think about the other schools because i have less of an idea of when to expect anything...although it's not good to know that oregon already sent out letters!

I got my rejection letter from UVA last night. No MLA for me there.
On the upside, the letter had two punctuation errors and at least two stylistic deficiencies.
I think I'm going to red-mark it and send it back to them.
haha i like your style dointime. i also got that letter, but i lost hope for them a few weeks ago.
UT austin is starting to look better and better...
@bcnDaye
Now I'm starting to think I should scan the letter high-res so I can print it out at 30X40 or so and mount it on foamcore. Maybe they'll hang it in the admissions office or something...
haha i like it to, though i wouldn't want to direct any more time/money towards them
i got my expected berkeley rejection today! i thought it was okay, since i got a big envelope from oregon too! it turns out it was just a housing brochure with a letter saying that this is NOT a notice of admission...that's evil.

whooooooooop! berkeley acceptance!
yay good for you! they must have sent everything out in one big batch
Just received a rather informal acceptance email from Berkeley, official letter being mailed tomorrow - wasn't expecting that one...
stonerock... have you heard from the GSD yet?
nope :(
I haven't lost hope, although I'm rather pessimistic.
this is where some GSD info can be found and where other 2008 applicants have been discussing.
we're landscapers, so most of that is irrelevant, and we're excellent at multi-tasking.
so true.
still have my fingers crossed and i def keep refreshing gradcafe every 2 minutes.
