hello friends i will complete my masters in structural engineering,i m thinking of march 1 degree, will i be prefered over other candidates??? if my design portfolio is equally competitve,
and what important role will this degree play to get me in to to 10 architecture programme
I'll be interested to hear the feedback. I am finishing up my masters in structural engineering as well and applying to a M.ARCH program shortly after.
engarch, i'm doing the reverse. I'm very curious How old are you upon finishing the masters in structural? and how old do you think you will be when finishing march?
I'm 24 finishing my masters in structural hopefully this fall. I'm doing evening classes as I am currently employed as an architectural engineer. I plan on on completing the M.Arch in 3 to 3.5 years, depends if I decided on doing one of the few evening programs and continue to work or go full time to school.
There might be a preference for you if your grades are in good standing. You could also explain in your application why you think your background is essential for architecture and what drives you in that direction. Your interest in the field might compel someone to see you in the program.
If you apply to a school which emphasizes design over anything else (read; all of them) then they probably won't move you ahead. If you have a portfolio or samples of work that demonstrate your ability with aesthetic architecture that helps. A top 10 school is competitive and especially difficult to enter without a design background in place.
Otherwise the faculty will review your application and assume you need all of the design courses but maybe you can waive the requirements for structures courses and the like. That can save you some time.
