I have a WD 750gb which backs up a raided 750gb array, and I also have additionally five 250gb Maxtor drives for various file archives. Personally, WD and Maxtor are the only brands I would purchase from.
Maybe i'm brand loyal, or maybe they're quality brands, its your money, invest it well!
My WD MyBook crapped out on me. Sending it off to get recovered. I would still suggest it, just make sure you plug it into a surge protector. Especially during a lightning storm.

i've got a 250gb western digital. works great. very reliable!
