I posted my portfolio not too long ago on a separate thread, and have generally received good comments/feedback. However, one negataive feedback of my folio that stands out, are my COVERS! I have not had a single positive comment on it. Things that have been said include:
"It takes away from the overall elegance and theme of the work"
Question to all of you:
- Is it so bad that it may be detrimental to my application?
- Since I've already spent considerable amount of money printing these, would you suggest I clear all my doubts with a "better" cover page? (I'm honestly the ONLY ONE that likes the cover pages)
- Do you have any other things you can point out ?
Don't stress the cover. It's what's inside that matters most.
But if you want my two cents, I would have changed it up since it's the same language as the section typography. But again, I wouldn't bother printing something else if you're all ready to go.
I like the simplicity, and I particularly like the "experimental" body torquing stuff. However, it seems pretty long. I'm not sure where you're applying but that's a lot to flip through.
All in all, I like it. Mail the thing and have a beer.
the reason for my longer portfolio was due to the fact that if i wanted to show process through a more diverse body of work in this particular simplistic format, it would've been difficult to really rein it in to a shorter length.
i mean, i think the spreads don't require a lot to "figure out" or much need of visual interpretation... what do you think?
the schools that i'm applying to fortunately, don't have page limits, so i applied myself in this way...
I think I was one of the ones who wasn't satisfied with the cover, but I think it's probably okay and won't be a deal-breaker. If you've already printed I don't think it would be that risky to just send it in. It may look better in-person than it does on-screen anyway, and it's consistent with the rest of the portfolio. I think that you'll get in some places.
now i'm thinking more along the lines of removing one of the later projects, and adding a spread or two show more sketches/process... what do you think?
and i suppose while i'm at it, i'd change up the covers a bit

Paranoid about my portfolio (Non-architecture background)
Hey guys,

This is probably one of my favourite portfolios on Archinect. Your cover is fine, it goes well with the style of other titles. Well done.
thanks kamil...that's very encouraging.
can i ask: are you a student, architect or faculty or a also looking to apply the following year
I'm a student getting into my final year in M.Arch in Australia.
Good luck with your application!
