I would actually not suggest to use Rhino. In order to make the sponge you would literally have to remodel the thing any time you would want to make changes. Maya unfortunately is not my specialty. So then this response is sort of not very useful except to stress that Rhino would not be the program to use for sponges.

modeling suggestions?
Hi all,
Ive been working the past few weeks on modeling a highway wall system were developing.
Some examples of what I've gotten so far:

Any thoughts on how you guys would model this in maya? We want it to be dense, spongelike.

how do i get that bronze exotic square jawed look so i can be americas next top model?
looks like a boolean thing (the wall that is). i would do it in rhino.
model it in polys - slice it up - delete faces - extrude edges to fill the gaps between faces (unless it's okay to elave them) - convert to subd
